is there a software (freeware) that can split vocals and the background music from an audio file?
like a regular CD audio file or an mp3, etc… to separate or extract either the vocals or the background music or split/separate them apart…
Technically speaking, this is pretty much impossible unless you have access to the original recording sessions.
Music recordings in the studio are are recorded multi-track, meaning each element is recorded separately on its own channel. Many songs can have upwards of 60, 70 or 80-plus different channels of audio. After recording, all of these separate channels are then combined during a mixdown process into 2 channels…left and right, for stereo to be put onto CD’s, mp3 etc. Since all of those tracks have been squeezed into two channels there is literally no way to just lift the vocals or the music since everything is locked in together.
That said, there are some karaoke plugins you can find for programs like Winamp that exaggerate the stereo separation of the 2 channels and drown the vocals out…giving you a sort of ‘bogus’ vocal-removing effect, but there is nothing that I’m aware of that could just pull out the vocals.
