Can anyone recommend a free audio converter software where you can set advanced options?
I really do need one. . . badly.
By “advanced options,” I mean I’d like a converter where you can change the bitrate of the audio file. I want to convert all of my music files to mp3 and change their bitrate to 64 kbps.

@ Nahum: Thanks. I’ve started to use Audacity not so long ago. . .How do you set a file’s bitrate? When I save my file, it says that the bitrate is 128 kbps.
From experience (yes I tried it) if you convert mp3 music files to 64 kbps they will be unusable unless you like your music sounding like it’s playing in a fish tank..
96 kbps is the absolute rock bottom bitrate for a usable mp3 music file.
128 kbps is probably the best compromise between file size and quality.

To reset the default bitrate in Audacity go to:
Version 1.2 File, Preferences, File Formats. There is a drop down selection list in the pop up.
Version 1.3:
File / Export / Save as Type – mp3
Select Options then bitrate from pop up.
