A 2hr rated cd will hold how many songs(approx) recorded as a wav file versus how many songs in mp3 format?
I’m trying to figure out how long to record from line-in so I can get max songs on cd. Tanxs
If the cd is rated 2 hours, then this time is probably refering to the length of time of music in wav. Assuming that each song is 4 minutes, that makes for 30 songs. Mp3 files are compressed, and therefore take up less space. If the mp3 file is encoded at 128 kbps, it will take up about one tenth the space of a wav file. Therefore, about 300 songs.
I’ve never used a 2 hour rated cd, so I’ll also give you the number of songs that can be put on a standard cd. Standard cds hold about 75 minutes of music in wav on them, which is about 18 songs at four minutes each. In mp3 (at 128 kbps), the cd will hold about 180.
