USB ports on my laptop do not work…?
No matter what I put into any of my 3 USB slots, whether it be a flash drive, wireless mouse, or mp3 player, my laptop at first recognizes the object in the usb slot. However, it then asks me to install hardware. No matter what option (install, ignore) I choose it will either
a) Not find the necessary drivers, and then whatever is in the usb slot will “disappear” from my desktop, and I cannot find it anywhere.
b) I choose not to install anything, and it still disappears from my desktop, and shows nothing plugged into the slot
Now, I did install drivers to my wireless mouse on my computer and it still does the same thing, and I can’t figure out how to fix it.
You need to install the chipset driver for your laptop. The USB controller is typically built into the southbridge of the chipset. Go to your manufacturer’s website and look for these drivers.
