accessing usb in ubuntu server 7.10?
I recently installed ubuntu server 7.10. I started by trying to get the wireless working because that is how I will be accessing the outside (a server in a cave is no good). The program ndiswrapper was suggested to me and this https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper guide tells that if I don’t have internet on the machine getting ndiswrapper that I should xfer on usb. I have the parts of ndis and the drivers on a usb device (actually an mp3 player I have used as an external file storage on occasion). lsusb tells me it is there with the correct name but I can’t mount it. I have tried things suggested to other people all over the net and nothing works. of interest it has two disks in separate partitions. mounting /dev/sda1 mounts my vista partition of the hdd if I force it. I can give more info if you tell me how to get it, the machine is right next to the one I am using now. Spell it out too if you could, i am really new to linux.
Do yourself a real favor, set your server up using ethernet. Once its all working, then use wireless if you HAVE TOO!
