If you were going to buy your child a MP3 player?
where would you buy one? Since your child deserves one but budget constraints say $50 or less and your child has instant gratification issues online isnt really an option, do any parent know of any sales this weekend that they would be happy to share for such a device? BTW your child is in the US if that matters. this is totally for my kid or your kid. not for me. nope not for me at all…

I didn’t buy Hannah one, but I gave her my old 1 gig freebie I got for signing up for our bank account a few years back.
As for sales, I bought my Sansa Fuze 8gb (which I totally recommend btw) on Amazon for my birthday which happens to fall right around Thanksgiving, so I was able to take advantage of the sales they had around Black Friday. I think I paid $56.95 + $8.95 S&H for it, if I would have gone to Best Buy it would have cost me $119.95, so I figure I got a good deal. Honestly, I love Amazon, so if you can wait to have it in your (I mean, “your child’s”) hands I would recommend this route. However, if you (or “your child”) really want to have one NOW, Best Buy is having a sale on some of their stock.
In the $50 range (keep in mind in this price range you are getting a MUSIC player only, no video capabilities): I know the sale includes the Sansa 2gb Clip. It doesn’t have the microSD slot for expansion like other players in the Sansa line, but its a nice little mp3 player for $39.99. In the same price range, there is the Sony Walkman (I’ve heard some pretty glowing reviews for this line as well) 2gb stick for $39.99 or the iPod Shuffle 1gb for $49.99.
Obviously, if you want more capabilities and capacity, you’re gonna have to pay more. My personal vote will always be for something in Sansa Fuze or View line-up mainly because:
a) I have one and I love it;
b) They are expandable thanks to the microSD slot, a feature that no other company offers, which means you can get a Fuze 2gb for around $60-70 then buy an 8gb microSD card for $10-15 and voila! For less money then an iPod 4gb you can have 2.5 times more capacity;
c) You don’t have to use iTunes to load it but if you have previously uploaded music on iTunes you can convert it. It is compatible with Windows Media Player or you can use the free Rhapsody player (which has iTunes conversion built in) that comes with the device.
d) It does just as much if not more than its Apple counterpart, but for a fraction of the price and let’s face it, if you (or “your child”) drops it, loses it, or breaks it in a way that would not be covered under the warranty, you won’t be out 2 months of groceries worth of a music player.
Others may disagree with me, let’s face it, there is a chance of lemons in any group (and operator error could be part of the reason). But IMO you can’t go wrong with a Sansa.
And before I forget, stay AWAY from the Disney line of sticks & players. No one I know who has purchased one of these has been even remotely happy with it. I even had one friend who got a Hannah Montana version for her daughter for Christmas and it stopped working the day after New Year’s.
