My soon to be twelve year old son is very caught up in how he “looks”?
Yet he is a very poor student (averages C’s & D’s). He is constantly asking for name brand clothing and expensive items from flatscreens, mp3 (he recently broke the one he had), palm pilots, cell phone, and games for psp and ps2 even jewlery. I have no problem providing (my fiance and I are raising him and his mother is very minimally in the picture and provides no child support). I think the need to have all the time comes from the lack of the presence of a mother figure in his life. He constantly wants new things and is always coveting what others have. He has very little regard for the stuff that he already has and he has alot (in his room he has: iguana as a pet , tv, computer, loads of action figures.) I am trying to instill the value of things and work ethic. For example: this weekend I mentioned to my partner about a sale in Footlocker for school sneakers &he said he doesn’t want sneakers from there because the footlocker is lame. Any advice?
tell him that if he gets good grades then only u r goign to buy him things. Give him chores to do around house and pay him for that. This way he will understnd how it is to earn money.
