how do you listen to your mp3 player in your car without the use of a car cassette adapter please? if i have a cd palyer in my car, can i listen to my mp3 player without using a cassette adapter, if so, how and what do i need and where can i get it?
This may help you if you are any good with a soldering iron. I too wanted to play my MP3 through my Radio/Cassette player so I contacted Clarion who informed me that despite having a 13 pin connector at the back these could not be used. So I removed the unit from the car and opened it up by removing the screws. If you look for the tape head pick up unit, this is the shiny silver device that the tape runs over, you will notice it has a wire connected to it, well three to be precise, one red one white and an earth. The red is for the right channel, the white is for the left channel and the other is an earth. If you disconnect these with a soldering iron. Purchase some cable from an electronics shop, ask for two core with a screen wire, it will probably have red and white insulation for the two inner wires. Then solder all three wires to the tape head pick up. For the other end you will need a male headphone plug to plug into your MP3, this also needs to be soldered too. Make sure this plug has an earth terminal. It sounds a bit complicated, but its quite straight forward and well worth it. Finally when its all connected you will need to either get a blank cassette, remove all the tape from it and insert it into the unit. Hey presto your MP3 player now works. To stop it just press eject. Please note, you obviously now won’t be able to play tapes any more. Total cost about £2. Hope this helps
