Help with mp3 player in Vista?
I have a 30GB Phillips GoGear mp3 player, which is partially compatible with Vista. I have Home Premium 32bit. It’s compatible only with music, but will not show pictures or album art on the device itself. however the pictures/album art can be seen in the gogear while it’s connected to windows media player.
Will it work if I choose “use an older program with this version of windows” to install the firmware update and device manger needed to run this player so i can load and see pictures on the mp3 player. I don’t have the discs anymore that came with the player but the files i need are available on their website. This player is compatible with XP. I bought it only after calling Phillips to confirm that there will be vista drivers available, was told yes by Cust. Service, then after I bought it, and 8 months later. I scanned the FAQ where I learned they were not planning Vista Drivers for this player. I am a bit perturbed after paying $250.00 for half a players potential.
I feel your pain… some of the vendors out there are not willing to support Vista. I’m not sure if they believe by holding out they can make WinXP live longer or what… but they need to stop acting like little kids. The changes within Vista will more than likely be carried over to Windows 7, whether they like it or not. It’s part of the new security model.
As for your player, you could attempt to use a Virtual Machine running Windows XP for your MP3 player. It might be an elaborate work around, but it could work.
