What is the best and easiest way to convert audio & video tapes to digital mp3 & mpg for my computer?
I have an HP Media Center computer, some AV Cables for the computer, but only portable stereo equipment. How much do I HAVE to invest. What programs make it simple?
For audio, you have to invest nothing. Just plug the audio cable to the line out (or headphones out) of the stereo and to the line input of your computer’s sound card.
Use “Audiograbber” (it’s freeware but it’s very good) to record the signal that comes to the line-in directly to MP3 or whatever format you want.
For video, you should have a capture card or a TV tuner card and some device that can play the videos in the format you have them in (a VCR for example). Connect the VCR to the capture card or TV tuner using apropriate cables and use “VirtualDub” to record from your capture card to the format you want. “VirtualDub” is also freeware.
