Check Engine Light: P0421?
So I got this trouble code on my Mazda Protege MP3 2001 and it says:
A code P0421 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* The catalytic converter is no longer functioning properly
* An oxygen sensor is not reading (functioning) properly
* A sparkplug is fouled up
So if I change my sparkplugs, cat, and oxygen sensors, my car should be fine right?
p0421 warm-up catalyst efficiency, bank1, below threshold.
loosely, it means that during the time that the monitor for the o2 sensor(s) ran, the cat was not working very well. both pre and post cat o2 sensors had very similar voltages. you can trow money at the problem but i doubt that it will solve the problem. check out the air filter. if it is dirty and restricting air flow it will do strange things with the fuel mixture, but a maf should be able to regulate for this situation.
