How can I play mp3 files in Linux Ubuntu?
This is my first Linux experience ever! =) When I clicked on an mp3 file, it said, “Totem could not play ‘file:///media/cdrom0/Third Day – Worthy is the Lamb.mp3′. There were no decoders found to handle the stream, you might need to install the corresponding plugins.”
Does it mean that my sound card is successfully installed but only that the program Totem does not have the plugins? If yes, where can i download the plugins and how do I install them easily? Thanks
Generally I wouldn’t use Totem for playing MP3′s as it is mainly a Video player (not a very good one either).
I would install xmms for playing MP3′s.
Just do:
sudo apt-get install xmms xmms-mpg123-ja
XMMS should now play MP3′s
If you want Totem to play mp3′s try:
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
Try installing mplayer and try that, I use it for MP3 and all video/streaming content, very handy.
