Where can I find a legal legitimate MP3 Download site, like Itunes but in an MP3 format? not FREE music?

Where can I find a site that is legal, not registered in Russia or someother weird place, where I can buy and download songs for my son’s MP3 player? Had I known this was going to be such a hassle I would have bought an IPOD….why are these so popular when it is hard to find a legitimate MP3 download site.
I am not computer saavy enought to download from itunes and convert it, besides I don’t want to have to convert. Any suggestions?

www.amazon.com or www.walmart.com they both have mp3 downloads.
