My grandson wants downloads to be put on mp3, is it legal and how?
Mp3 players are loaded with music so it must be ok and legal. How do we get downloaded music onto his ipod or mp3 player? Ok, illerate granny does not know what is which. Can you help?
You can download songs from your computer to your MP3 player. This is perfectly legal as long as you own a copy of the CD. However, if you take your friend’s CD and download that song into your MP3 player, that’s illegal.
You can download songs from the internet to your computer, and download them from there onto your MP3 player. You can legally download songs as long as the artist lets you. Maybe they give away a few free songs as a promotion? Maybe you use some service like iTunes where you buy the songs as MP3s? However, there are many sites on the internet where people have taken songs from their CDs and put them on the internet so that anybody can illeagally download them.
Some MP3 players come with a program to download files to your MP3 player (my iRiver brand one does). Some MP3 players are recognized by the iTunes program, so you can use that program to download them to your MP3 player (get it free at http://www.itunes.com/ – they also have at least 1 free song a week you can download, or you can pay $.99 to download songs from their catalog). All Apple iPods are recognized by iTunes. Some MP3 players show up to your system as if they were a small hard drive (Coby ones do this). You can simly open “Windows Explorer” (Start -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer) and drag & drop files onto the MP3 player’s folder. In this case, you still need to get the songs from CD into MP3 format (again, I’d recommend iTunes for this).
