Suggestions for Mp3 playback without PC, but with display?
I have a fairly sizable music collection – around 60gb of mp3s – and would like to play it back on my home stereo without using ITunes on a PC (presently I stream wirelessly from PC to Airport Express). I want something with a display so I can navigate through my music (for all its bloat, I do appreciate ITunes; search capability is a must), yet I’d rather not have to turn on my TV set to access a GUI. I’ve thought about just buying a 120g iPod since it has the required storage and a nice interface, but portability is not important and I’d also like to keep things networked if possible. I have a passing knowledge of Linux (I can copy and paste commands from a how-to page) and have thought about getting the “Slug”, but I still can’t come up with the “display” solution. Any ideas out there, such as a tiny monitor I can hook up to a network device?
Have you thought of perhaps looking into an Archos player? It has WiFi, optional Docking station, and up to 250 or 320GB of storage. better yet is you also get to add internet music to your playing capabilities.
The new IMT (Internet Media Tablet, I believe) units are very sharp, and might do the trick.
