Converting an MP3 Player to a USB Mass Storage device? Can it be done?
Ok, I have an old Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 30GB MP3 player sitting here. Its redundant and undated. I work with raw video files (for pleasure) which, depending on lenght, can be very large. Having a 30GB “USB Stick” could be very usefull. So, can it be done? If so is it easy? I presume you would have to overwrite the firmware to make it appear as a generic drive. Right now it requires drivers which makes is pretty useless, especially as they are no longer available. Also, one problem I forsee is that disabling the original firmware might prohibit the use of the controls. This is fine except the it needs to be turned on manually, it is not USB powered.

Thanks Naveed but the drivers arent available. Vista cant find a copy, thus sends me to do it manually from the creative site, but its too old so they do not provide support anymore. Without installing it is unusuable so I cant transer files to it.
mp3 players can be used as mass storage device, instead of transfering the music fiels to your device transfer data its just simple.
device will ignore all other file formats which it doesnt recognize. so u can use it as storage device aswell as mp3 player.
if you want to permanently use it a storage device then format it.
if you have problem with drivers, conenct your device to pc adn when it prompts for driver select the option to search on internet.
You should have windows XP or Vsita to do this without driver or using default drivers.
