TO ALL LINUX USERS. How do I make a bash script to convert an mp3 directory into .au files?
I want to use the ‘for in’ keywords, and sox command, but I can’t figure out how to do the second variable. Here’s a rough example:
#!/bin/bash
for jam in *.mp3
do
sox $jam $jam.au | cut -d. -f1
done
I’m having trouble with the second variable not working. Any ideas. I want the original song names to be preserved. Just converted to au format. Thanks for any help.
the problem is that the second variable is becoming this.mp3.au for the sox command which isnt going to like it. You had the right idea but you need to trim earlier then add the .mp3 and the .au where needed.

for jam in `ls -1 *.mp3 | cut -d. -f1`
do
sox $jam.mp3 $jam.au
done
