Can I swap a CD Changer for a Hard Drive?
I am looking to add mp3 support for my car. I have a 6 disk changer that does not support mp3 (2001 gs 300). I would like to keep the factory look of the system and would like to upgrade the changer. Ideally I would like to add a hard drive in place of the changer.
Anything can be done, but in most cases in involves aftermarket upgrades.
Lexus does have a Media hard disk MP3 option, but I don’t know if it is compatible with your model factory radio. Your Lexus dealer should be able to answer that question. Everything I have found says the GS does not offer that option.
If you decide to go with aftermarket, look at drivesoft. They offer an in car PC with a simple 7″ touch screen controll panel that resembles many of today’s naigation units. The PC itself can be remotely mounted in the trunk. In most cases, the drivesoft in-car-PC is used as a multimedia device to controll the audio and video from multiple inputs.
