iPod to Zune?
I have been burning CDs for a friend with a Zune and for some reason it will not accept mp4s (I was under the impression that this was a universal format). I tried burning them in mp3 format but it won’t do it because the songs on my iPod are not mp3s. Finally I attempted to make a playlist from my iPod to burn to a CD and I swear I’ve done it before but it wouldn’t let me take songs off of my iPod. I have the program Senuti which I think could get me around this but I am having difficulty navigating it.
So I guess my question/questions is/are…
1. What’s going on with the Zune thing? Is there a setting in the Zune program that can be changed? Or is it something I have to do?
2. Why can’t I take songs from my iPod to burn onto a CD (or put on an iTunes playlist or in a new separate folder)?

I think the mp4 thing was invented by apple, I think. See references.
From what I’ve gathered, you can’t take songs from your ipod because apple doesn’t want you to use it as a means of giving you a way to share your music with your friends. They figure that as long as you keep your music tied to one itunes library, you’ll only have to sync it to your ipod, so you can have your mp3 access without having sharing your music with your friend.
Now, how to share your music:
You should have a copy of your music on your harddrive, not just on your ipod (in case, *knock on wood* your ipod is stolen or damaged). If you do not have music backed up somewhere, you can download either yamipod or sharepod or floola to get the music off of your ipod. (you can do a search to download the latest versions of the software). Once you have your music in a separate location, then you can convert it to mp3.
Convert your mp4 to mp3. You can use SUPER. Link in references. Now you can use any CD burning program to burn the mp3s.
As for playlists, I’ve been bad about maintaining playlists. I think sharepod allows you to take off the playlists from your ipod, so you can do that. But you can simply recreate your playlists once you’ve converted your library.
